MAHLE presents its new solutions to improve marine engine efficiency
MAHLE has presented at SMM 2026, the leading international maritime industry fair held in Hamburg, its main solutions to enhance the efficiency and reliability of ship propulsion systems. The company has decades of experience in developing components for marine engines and works with some of the leading manufacturers in the sector.
Among the new products showcased at the fair is a Power Cell Unit (PCU), a set consisting of a piston, pin, segments, and cylinder sleeve. This system is used in ferries, workboats, and power generation equipment installed on large vessels. The integration of all these elements allows for improved operation and efficiency of the engine.
Another highlighted component is a large diameter piston for marine engines, which reaches 65 centimeters in height, has a diameter of 51 centimeters, and weighs around 300 kilograms. It is the largest marine piston manufactured in series within the MAHLE range and is part of a Power Cell Unit.
The company offers a wide range of pistons for different applications, including models made of cast aluminum, pistons welded with an electron beam, and composite pistons with skirts made of aluminum, cast iron, or steel.
MAHLE collaborates with manufacturers in the maritime, railway, industrial, and power generation sectors to develop components aimed at more efficient engines tailored to the needs of each application.
The company has integrated these activities into its new Industrial Division and Special Solutions, with the aim of strengthening collaboration with its customers and accelerating the development of specific solutions.
