Maersk Divides Its Operations
The powerful Danish shipping holding A.P. Moller – Maersk Group has decided to divide its operations into two major areas. To this end, it has created a new division called Transport and Logistics, which will include Maersk Line, APM Terminals, Damco Svitzer, and Maersk Container Industry.
A second division called Energy will group the specific operations of the sector, which has the transportation of oil and derivatives and all related activities as its main base, and to which Maersk Oil, Maersk Drilling, Maersk Supply Service, and Maersk Tankers will belong. Maersk Oil will focus on markets in Northern Europe, while the others will seek to optimize their sector position.
A.P. Moller – Maersk Group states that this is a review of the long-term strategy, given the expected growth. Since the activities in which it participates are very diverse and face significant market changes and competitive challenges, the segregation between transport and logistics and the oil and derivatives businesses into two independent divisions will strengthen its international position, says Michael Pram Rasmussen, president of A.P. Moller.
