King Felipe VI presides over the great naval parade Motril 2023
King Felipe VI presided over the great naval parade of Motril 2023 this afternoon, aboard the BAM “Furor”, held in commemoration of Armed Forces Day. Twelve ships participated, led by the LHD “Juan Carlos I”, two submarines, eleven planes, and twelve helicopters, with the attendance of various authorities, including the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles; the Chief of Defense Staff, General Admiral Teodoro López Calderón; and the Chief of Naval Staff, General Admiral Antonio Piñeiro Sánchez.
At the end of the event, the monarch moved to Poniente Beach in Motril, where a dynamic exhibition took place, consisting of a parachute jump and an aerial demonstration by the ASPA Patrol, demonstrations of pursuit and detention of drug traffickers by the Civil Guard, Army vehicles on the beach, and an amphibious and aerial exercise by the Navy.
The celebration of Armed Forces Day dates back to 1978, when the annual commemoration of a national holiday was established in honor of the Armies and to promote knowledge and integration within society.
It is a day to recognize the work that military personnel carry out both inside and outside our borders. Their ongoing work in monitoring and protecting national territory, as well as defending peace and freedom in the world, has been ongoing for over thirty years.
