The Japanese shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has signed an agreement with Nihon Shipyard to build three large VLCC tankers for crude oil transportation. Each vessel will have a deadweight tonnage of 311,000 tons.
The new ships will measure 339.5 meters in length and 60 meters in width and will be designed to transport large cargoes of crude oil on routes between the Middle East and Asia, especially through the Strait of Malacca.
The new units will be of Malaccamax type, with lower fuel consumption and greater energy efficiency. The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2029.
