The training ship “Juan Sebastián de Elcano” returns to Cádiz after completing its XCVIII training cruise
The forecasts have been fulfilled and the training ship “Juan Sebastián de Elcano” —commanded by CN José María de la Puente Mora Figueroa— returned to Cádiz last Friday, July 31, after completing its XCVIII training cruise. The Cádiz with Elcano Association encouraged the sports fleet and recreational boats to accompany it into the port of Cádiz, where it docked at noon and in the afternoon headed to the La Carraca arsenal, repeating the scene of its passage under the Carranza bridge, assisted by two tugboats from the Boluda Towage fleet.
In the coming months, it will remain in a period of works and maintenance preparing for the centenary cruise of its launch, which will be the XCIX in its long maritime history.
The journey of the XCVIII training cruise concludes after almost seven months of navigation, with 73 midshipmen. It has been the first time in a long time that the Spanish training ship has not been present at the delivery of royal dispatches at the Naval School of Marín.
The training ship “Juan Sebastián de Elcano” set sail from Cádiz on January 10 and has completed 152 days at sea. On this occasion, after its stop at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the itinerary included stops in seven countries, including the U.S., coinciding with the events of the 250th anniversary of American independence and the international regatta Sair 250 New York.
