Juan Perol Saved the Lives of Five Sailors from the 'Divina del Mar'
Following the accident of the fishing vessel “Divina del Mar”, which occurred in the early hours of November 12 near the castro of Baroña, A Coruña, and in which sailor José Manuel Castelo Gudín lost his life, Salvamento Marítimo has shared the story of Juan Perol, whom they consider the hero of Portosín.
This 18-year-old young man saved the lives of five crew members from the aforementioned fishing vessel by alerting the CCS of Finisterre from the fishing boat “Ardorán”, where he was working at the time of the incident.
“At sea, there is a written rule that is the obligation to provide assistance, and there is another unwritten rule that only those who navigate know, which is the solidarity towards fellow sailors, their support in complicated moments, during the long hours of solitude. These are rules of the sea and a tacit pact that Juan, despite his youth, understands,” writes Salvamento Marítimo on their Facebook.
