Almería Maritime Authority Fines Jet Ski for Endangering Cargo Ship Docking Maneuver
The Almería Maritime Authority has opened a sanctioning file against a jet ski that interfered with the docking maneuver of the cargo ship "Grit Cement" (IMO 906482), putting the safety of the operation at risk.
The events occurred on July 19 in the commercial port area of Carboneras. The port pilot reported that the jet ski had entered the area while the ship "Grit Cement", flying the flag of Cyprus, was performing the docking maneuver.
According to the report, the jet ski hindered the operation and created a dangerous situation. Therefore, the Almería Maritime Authority has imposed a fine of between 12,000 and 15,000 euros.
This is the first incident of this type recorded by the maritime authority, as regulations prohibit jet skis from navigating within commercial ports.
The General Directorate of Merchant Marine now has a period of 12 months to resolve the file.
