The Honorable Gesture of Naviera Armas with the Villa de Agaete
The catamaran “Villa de Agaete” is soon to enter service, with which Naviera Armas pays tribute to the municipality in the northwest of Gran Canaria. Onboard, all details are being finalized to make the journey pleasant and attractive for passengers and transporters, with a complete renovation of the interiors – as can be seen in the photographs – as well as the opening of a terrace at the stern, making it no longer a closed ship.
This vessel will replace the catamaran “Ciudad de Ceuta” on the “maritime bridge” between both Canary capitals and will reinforce the high-speed line between Las Palmas and Morro Jable (Fuerteventura) on weekends (Friday and Sunday).
This is the third ship named Agaete. As our readers know, there was a ferry from Compañía Trasmediterránea called “Villa de Agaete” at the suggestion of Lorenzo Olarte Cullen, then president of the Cabildo Insular de Gran Canaria, which was operational from 1975 to 2002, when it was sold to Iscomar and renamed “Carmen del Mar”; and a general cargo ship named “Agaete,” owned by one of the companies of the Gran Canaria shipowner Gabriel Martín González, originally called “Eco Luisa.”
