The Royal Navy sells the amphibious assault ship "HMS Bulwark" to the Brazilian Navy
The amphibious assault ship "HMS Bulwark" will leave the Royal Navy after more than two decades of service and will be transferred to the Brazilian Navy, where it will be renamed "NDM Oiapoque".
The operation is part of the renewal of the British amphibious fleet; in fact, according to various British media, the Royal Navy is also preparing to sell the ship "HMS Albion".
The amphibious assault ship "HMS Bulwark" measures 176 meters in length and has a displacement of about 18,500 tons. It is equipped to transport up to 710 personnel, as well as landing craft, armored vehicles, and large helicopters.
Before its transfer, the ship is undergoing a refurbishment process at the Plymouth shipyards. The work includes upgrades to the propulsion system, communications, and command and control systems.
The Brazilian Navy has sent personnel to the UK for training to operate the ship.
