Hidramar attends to the contract of the vessel “Ocean Rig Corcovado”
In the end, sanity and legality have prevailed in the controversy that arose a few days ago, and the naval repair company Hidramar – one of the most important in the country in its specialty – is attending to the contract signed with the multinational Transocean, owner of the drilling vessel “Ocean Rig Corcovado”, which is docked at the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The Port Authority has asserted its authority, and never better said, against the attempted prohibition by the shipping agent Hamilton and Co., which apparently tried to prevent Hidramar personnel from accessing the docking of the aforementioned vessel at the Reina Sofía dock.
This provoked, on one hand, a spontaneous demonstration by Hidramar workers in front of the Port Authority headquarters, who felt their jobs were threatened, and the angry reaction of the president of the public entity, Juan José Cardona, which was responded to by Hidramar's management, in light of the attempt to involve the company in the workers' decision.
As the president of the Port Authority stated in comments to La Provincia, although Hamilton and Co. has requested a concession process, they currently only hold “a temporary concession” at the Reina Sofía dock, and Hidramar claims that “the maneuvering area adjacent to the dock is not concessioned, nor is the water surface”, so the president of the Port Authority warns that “they cannot deny anyone entry because they do not have ownership for that.”
