"Hawk" Anchored in Algeciras
In the waters of the bay of Algeciras, the semi-submersible vessel “Hawk” has been anchored since this afternoon, carrying a barge and a jack-up drilling rig, where it was photographed by Captain Carlos Duclos, a pilot of that port. This is a technical stop in the so-called anchorage area 2, before continuing its journey to Port Est, Réunion Island.
The vessel “Hawk”, flagged in Norway, is an old oil tanker of 142,000 deadweight tons, Suez-max type, built in 1989 at the Brodogradiliste Brodosplit Shipbuilding yards in Split (Croatia), originally named “Jahre Transporter”. Until 2007, it bore the names “Nord Jahre Transportes”, “Crude Transporter”, “Genmar Transporter”, and “Front Transporter”. In its previous condition, it visited the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife several times to unload crude oil for the CEPSA refinery.
In 2008, it was converted for its current role as a heavy cargo transport vessel, with a deck length of 157 m and a usable area of 6,900 square meters. It is a vessel of 38,722 gross tons, 226.27 meters in length, 44.54 meters in width, and a maximum draft of 13 meters. IMO Code 8616556.
There is a nearly identical vessel called originally “Jahre Trader”, later “Borja Tapias” and “Leon Spirit”, stages in which it sailed under the Spanish flag with the credentials of Naviera F. Tapias and Teakey Spain. After its conversion, it has borne the names “Ancora” and “Osprey”. IMO Code 8616568.
