Hapag-Lloyd Launches a New Route Between Spain, Malta, and Tunisia with a Stop at the Port of Algeciras
Hapag-Lloyd has launched a new maritime connection between Spain and North Africa to enhance cargo transport in the western Mediterranean.
The new service, called IRS, connects the ports of Algeciras, Marsaxlokk (Malta), and Sfax (Tunisia), offering a direct route between the Iberian Peninsula, Malta, and Tunisia.
The line is operated in collaboration with X-Press Feeders through a space reservation agreement on vessels. For this service, X-Press Feeders will deploy the container ship "X-Press Mulhacen" (IMO 9365960), flagged in Malta, and its twin "Spirit" (IMO 9302255), flagged in the Netherlands.
Both vessels have a capacity of 809 TEU each and will cover the route permanently with a frequency of two weeks. With this new connection, Hapag-Lloyd expands its services in the Mediterranean by leveraging agreements with other operators specialized in regional maritime transport.
