Grimaldi Wants to Enter the Livorno-Palma-Valencia Route
Everything seems to indicate that Grimaldi Group, based in Naples, is the Italian shipping company interested in opening the Livorno-Palma-Valencia route, which we referred to a few days ago. We have detected "movements" where Italian suppliers are offering customers in the Balearic Islands (mainly in the restaurant and industry sectors) continuity in the supply chain.
Grimaldi tried this a few years ago, at the end of the 20th century, but the initiative did not succeed then. As we have indicated, it is not interested in passenger traffic, which it leaves in the hands of Trasmediterránea and Balearia. Its interest lies in roll-on/roll-off cargo, where it can gain market share, as it knows in detail the occupancy rates of Spanish shipping companies.
It will operate with a ro-ro vessel, which seems to be nearing service. To try to carve out a niche in the market, it will enter into a likely price war with Spanish shipping companies, which suggests turbulent waters in the market, and as a differentiating element, it offers the port of Livorno as the origin and final destination of the route.
