In Gratitude to the Spirit of Integration at the University
The Nautical section of the Higher Polytechnic School of Engineering at the University of La Laguna held a tribute and gratitude event yesterday, Saturday, in the auditorium, honoring three professors who have contributed from their respective responsibilities to the spirit of integration of the then Higher School of Civil Marine into the university rank. The honorees on this occasion were Fernando Salvador Sánchez-Caro, Pedro Anatael Meneses Roqué, and Enrique García Melón. In the future, it will be José Segura Clavell's turn, who was absent yesterday.
As the general director of the Merchant Marine, Fernando Salvador Sánchez-Caro was a key figure in the construction and equipping of the school's dock, as well as the sailing boat for practices and the expansion of the building; Pedro Anatael Meneses Roqué, "for his accredited contribution to the integration of Nautical studies in the Spanish university and his teaching work" at the aforementioned center, in addition to his support during his terms as president of the Port Authority and general director of the Merchant Marine, and Professor Enrique García Melón, who represents the emblem and category of the faculty, as both he and José Bastida Tirado, who has since passed away, were the first two professors the Tenerife school had.
The event was promoted by Dr. Antonio Burgos Ojeda, deputy director of the Nautical Section of the aforementioned Higher Polytechnic School of Engineering at the University of La Laguna and is part of the celebration of the annual San Telmo festivities. There was also recognition for the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Maritime Distributor Petrogas, and the Port Stevedores Foundation. Representatives from the latter two attended, while there was no representation from the Port Authority, which surprised those present, as it is, in this case, a valuable and important link in achieving the students' curricular practices.
