Italian PCTC Ship “Grande Torino” Resumes Route After Nearly Four Months Anchored in the Persian Gulf
The PCTC ship "Grande Torino” (IMO 9782675) from the Grimaldi Group has finally resumed its navigation after being anchored for nearly four months in the Persian Gulf due to the ongoing conflict in the region.
The ship, flagged in Italy, is headed towards the Indian Ocean with a final destination of Singapore, according to tracking data from Marine Traffic.
The PCTC “Grande Torino” had been in the area since February as part of its regular route to transport cars and trucks from Asia to Europe. The outbreak of conflict and instability in the area led the Grimaldi Group to decide not to cross the Strait of Hormuz until security guarantees were in place, to avoid endangering the crew.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani confirmed that Iranian authorities would allow the safe departure of the ship following diplomatic advances between the United States and Iran. The ship is now on its way to a safe destination.
