Germany to Build Finnish Project Ship for Star Cruises
The naval engineering firms Deltamarin and Elomatic, based in Turku (Finland), signed a contract on July 28 for the design and development of a Global-class ship, with a gross tonnage of 200,001 tons, intended for the eastern shipping company Star Cruises. The Werften shipyard in Wismar will be responsible for its construction and it will be the largest of its kind built in Germany.
The amount of the contract has not been disclosed, but it represents a significant boost for the German shipbuilding industry and also for the aforementioned Finnish naval engineering firms, which possess considerable know-how. The shipyard where the new vessel will be built is controlled by Genting Hong Kong, and delivery is expected in 2020. Its main dimensions will be 340 m in length and 45 m in width.
