The ferry “Las Palmas de Gran Canaria” on the Algeciras-Tangier route
The ferry “Las Palmas de Gran Canaria” will replace the catamaran “Alborán” on the Algeciras-Tangier route while the latter is scheduled for maintenance during the third week of this month. Following this, the aforementioned “Alborán” will substitute the catamaran “Milenium Dos” on the Algeciras-Ceuta route for the same reason, and then the ship “Ciudad de Málaga” will enter dry dock, thus taking over until the end of October.
The ferry “Las Palmas de Gran Canaria” has recently reinforced the Almería-Nador route, where it has operated with the vessel “Almariya.” Before entering service, it made a special trip to deliver materials that will improve the ramps where Trasmediterránea operates at the Ceuta port.
It is one of the most modified and profitable ships in the century-old shipping company. Simple and functional, it was built at the Unión Naval de Levante shipyard in Valencia – which we attended for its launch – and entered service in 1993. Together with its twin “Santa Cruz de Tenerife,” delivered in January 1994, they replaced the Finnish-origin “dolphins” “Ciudad de La Laguna” and “Villa de Agaete,” possibly the best ships in their class that the Spanish Merchant Navy has ever had.
