Eni and Fincantieri, through their subsidiary IDS, develop a robotic platform for underwater inspection
Eni and Fincantieri, through their subsidiary IDS, have signed a collaboration agreement to develop and commercialize Clean Sea technology, an underwater robotic system designed to monitor the state of marine ecosystems and the infrastructures installed underwater.
The agreement will allow IDS to exclusively use this technology to develop underwater inspection solutions, both for Eni's operations and for other clients. Among its applications is support for energy transition projects in the offshore sector, such as those related to carbon capture and storage.
The Clean Sea system combines remotely operated underwater vehicles and autonomous vehicles, allowing missions to be conducted from support vessels or to operate independently. Additionally, it incorporates advanced sensors capable of collecting information on water quality, conducting visual inspections, and creating 3D underwater maps.
The technology will be integrated with the unmanned systems developed by Fincantieri, expanding its use possibilities in environmental monitoring, the protection of underwater infrastructures, and the security of critical offshore facilities.
