Eleventh Meeting of the Joyful Retirees of Transportes Marítimos Alcudia Held in Laxe
On June 13, we celebrated the annual meeting of the joyful crew members of Transportes Marítimos Alcudia. The meal took place at the Mar hotel in the port of Laxe, located in the center of the Costa da Morte, on the southern side of the ría de Corme, with the participation of 65 people. The colleagues we shared lunch with came from Mallorca, Barcelona, the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias, and Galicia.
A brief summary of the fleet of this shipping company up to the year 2005.
This shipping company, owned by the Oliver family from the port of Alcudia, began its journey with steel ships around 1980. In its early days, its vessels came from other shipping companies, such as Ricoma S.A., Trans-Balear S.A., Contenemar S.A., Naviera Murueta S.A., Sota Cantábrico S.A., Bilbao Shipping S.A., Marítima del Mediterráneo S.A., and others from abroad, which is why the crews are from different shipping companies that joined this one.
The first addition was the ship “María Ángeles Arrúe” (1980-1982), built in 1969 at Astilleros Murueta S.A.; “Noreña” (1980-1984), built at Astilleros Balenciaga S.A. in Zumaya in 1970, renamed “Playa de Alcudia.”
In 1981, the ship “Teresa del Mar” (1981-1987) was added, built at the Astilleros de Marítima de Axpe S.A. in Bilbao in 1968, renamed “Puerto de Alcudia.” In 1985, the ship “Albiz” (1985-1990) was incorporated, built at Astilleros Murueta S.A. in 1975, renamed “Faro de Alcudia.”
In 1987, the ships “Sota Sir Ramón,” “Sota Yon,” and “Sota Aránzazu” were added, built at Astilleros Balenciaga between 1977-1978, with the first two renamed “Playa de Alcudia” and “Atalaya de Alcudia” (1987-1993), while the third was sold in December 1987 to the shipping company Trans-Balear S.A., renamed “Binissalem.”
Subsequently, the ships “Danok” (1990-1993), renamed “Albufera de Alcudia,” were sold and renamed “Elviña”; “Portubide,” called “Albufera de Alcudia,” was sold and renamed “Dombate”; “Puerto Alcudia Dos” (1991-2003) was newly constructed; “Rolón Alcudia” (1993-2005), “Rolón Bahía de Alcudia” (1995-2004), “Playa de Alcudia” (1997) was newly constructed, “Marina de Alcudia” (2001-3003), and the ro-pax “Atalaya de Alcudia” (2003-2005) was newly constructed.
