Drug Search on the Livestock Vessel “Mawashi Express”
Members of the National Police and the U.S. DEA are inspecting the livestock vessel “Mawashi Express” in an investigation aimed at finding drugs. A mandate from the Special Anti-Drug Prosecutor's Office of the National Court ordered the interception of the Panamanian-flagged vessel while it was sailing in the waters of the Alboran Sea, near Almería, which has proceeded to the bay of Algeciras and is currently docked in Campamento.
The vessel is transporting about 16,000 heads of cattle, and the typical stench of this type of transport is already noticeable in the environment.
The Port Authority offered to anchor it in the bay, but the competent authority ordered its docking, despite complaints from the mayor of San Roque, following the instructions for its inspection overseen by DEA agents.
