DFDS Exchanges Two Ferries with Moby Lines
DFDS has reached an agreement with Moby Lines for the purchase of the ferries “Moby Wonder” and “Moby Aki”, built in 2001 and 2005, for their incorporation in early 2020 to the Amsterdam-Newcastle route. Moby, for its part, is purchasing from DFDS the ferries “King Seaways” and “Princess Seaways”, which are considerably older, built in 1987 and 1986, to replace them on their regular routes in Italy.
DFDS will take over the two vessels in mid-October and they will enter dry dock. They will be registered in Denmark and will bear the names “Amsterdam Seaways” and “Newcastle Seaways”, in homage to the cities they will connect. DFDS's cargo capacity on the mentioned route will increase by 40%, vehicle capacity by 5%, and it is estimated that the cabin configuration perfectly meets the requirements of passengers traveling with their vehicles.
In 2018, the Amsterdam-Newcastle route transported more than 600,000 passengers, 122,000 vehicles, and 350,000 linear meters of rolling cargo.
