A Decade of the Jordanian Ferry “Sinaa”, Formerly “Volcán de Tejeda”
In October, it will be ten years since the sale of the ferry “Volcán de Tejeda” (IMO 9081590) to a shipping company from Jordan, which has since been renamed “Sinaa” and operates on the Aqaba-Nuweiba route. The owning company is Arab Bridge Maritime Co., a consortium formed by interests from Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq. This same shipping company has been operating another former Spanish ferry, the ex “Manuel Azaña”, renamed “Amman”, since 2010, which has returned several times to the Strait of Gibraltar area during the OPE.
As can be seen in the image, openings have been made on the sides to facilitate ventilation on the car deck. When it was decommissioned from the Naviera Armas fleet, it covered the Motril-Al Hoceima route, where it was replaced by its twin “Volcán de Tauce”. After being dry-docked at the floating dock of Mario López in Málaga, the ferry “Volcán de Tejeda” emerged fully painted white.
This is the second newly built ferry from Naviera Armas, launched from the shipyard Hijos de J. Barreras and entered service in 1995, under the command of Captain Antonio Guillén. It is a vessel of 9,807 gross tons and 120 m in length, currently capable of carrying 650 passengers and 60 cars. Together with its twin and the first “Volcán de Tindaya”, it marks the starting point of the Naviera Armas we know today.
