Europe Tests Its Defense with a Large-Scale Cyberattack Simulation Against Maritime Transport
The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) has coordinated the exercise “Cyber Europe 2026”, a drill to test the response to large-scale cyberattacks on ports and railway networks.
The exercise simulated a coordinated attack on maritime and railway networks, two key sectors of transport in Europe. In the scenario presented, port and navigation systems experienced disruptions that paralyzed the movement of goods, while the railway network faced failures affecting passenger trains and cross-border transport.
More than 5,000 experts from cybersecurity agencies, European institutions, and partner countries participated in the exercise, working under pressure to manage the crisis and coordinate the response among different countries and sectors.
The goal is to improve the European Union's preparedness for such threats in the maritime and railway sectors.
