"Costa Toscana", the largest ship to visit Ibiza
The Italian-flagged megaship "Costa Toscana" (IMO 9781891) has become the largest vessel by tonnage to visit the port of Ibiza. Under the command of Captain Pietro Sinisi, it arrived this morning from Naples on its way to Valencia, carrying an expedition of 2,348 passengers and 1,391 crew members on board.
The passengers are mostly Italian – just over 1,600 – followed at a distance by French, Spanish (73), and Swiss. Among other nationalities, there are several from the Caucasus republics, Morocco, Russia, and even one from Ivory. Ibiza Mar Consignaciones is in charge of the arrangements for the stop and the logistics that such a ship entails.
Built at the Meyer Turku shipyard (Finland) and delivered on December 2, 2021, it is prepared for liquefied natural gas consumption, one of the strong arguments for its construction, although the high price of this type of fuel means that, for now, it consumes low-sulfur fuel oil.
With a gross tonnage of 182,700 tons, it measures 337 m in length and 42 m in width and has the capacity to accommodate 6,518 passengers in 2,612 cabins and 1,682 crew members.
