"Costa Pacífica" in Vigo
The port of Vigo received today a new scheduled call from the ship "Costa Pacífica". It arrived from Lisbon on its way to Le Havre, this time with an expedition of 2,553 passengers and 1,041 crew members. During its stay, 19 buses departed with the excursions booked on board to visit Santiago de Compostela, Cambados, La Toja, and Bayona la Real, as well as two others for panoramic tours of the city of Vigo, reports Alfredo Campos Brandón, the author of the accompanying photos. The handling was managed by the delegation of Pérez y Cía., with their usual efficiency.
The ship "Costa Pacífica" is part of a series of six sister ships, including the sadly infamous "Costa Concordia". The forward section of the hull was shaped at the shipyard in Palermo (Sicily) and was towed to the shipyard in Sestri Ponente (Genoa), where it was assembled and entered service in May 2009. It is a ship of 114,000 gross tons and measures 290.20 m in overall length, 35.30 m in beam, and 8.20 m in draft. It has a capacity for 3,004 passengers and is powered by six Wärtsila engines, totaling 75,600 kW and a speed of 19.6 knots. IMO Code 9378498.
