Corsica Finds a Bonanza on the Toulon-Ciutadella-Alcudia Route
Corsica Ferries has found a bonanza on the Toulon-Ciutadella-Alcudia route, bringing increasingly notable volumes of French passengers arriving in Menorca and Mallorca, where its summer presence is growing. This is a biweekly line, although without fixed days or ships, connecting Toulon-Ciutadella-Alcudia-Toulon.
Yesterday, Sunday, the star was the ferry “Mega Express Five,” but on previous occasions, Corsica Ferries has sent the ships “Mega Express Two,” “Mega Express Four,” and “Mega Smeralda.”
In the case of the ferry “Mega Express Five,” which had only been there once before, it is a Japanese-built vessel, formerly “Phoenix Express,” in service since 1993. Weighing 11,578 gross tons, it measures 170 m in length and 25 m in width and has capacity for 662 passengers in cabins and 1,400 linear meters of rolling cargo. Two Pielstick engines with a power of 33,980 kW on two shafts allow it to maintain a speed of 25 knots. IMO Code 9035101.
