CMA CGM orders six new 3,100 TEU container ships from China Merchants Shipbuilding
CMA CGM has ordered six new container ships of 3,100 TEU each from the Chinese shipyard China Merchants Shipbuilding Weihai, as part of its shipbuilding program.
The new units will measure 199.9 meters in length and 35.2 meters in width, with a projected draft of 8.5 meters. Their design will be compact and they will be able to carry up to 800 refrigerated containers.
The six new container ships are expected to be delivered between mid-2028 and early 2029, at a rate of approximately one ship per month.
The new units will be equipped with MAN B&W main engines and are designed to provide greater flexibility in the shipping company's operations. CMA CGM aims to complement its large ocean-going container ships with smaller units, specially adapted for regional and feeder services.
