The container ship "CMA CGM Notre Dame" crosses the Suez Canal for the first time heading to the port of Algeciras
The ship "CMA CGM Notre Dame" (IMO 1028035), the largest container ship registered in France, is sailing to Europe for the first time. Powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), this vessel has made its first transit through the Suez Canal and is now heading to the port of Algeciras, which it expects to reach on June 24, according to Marine Traffic tracking data.
The ship belongs to the French shipping company CMA CGM and is part of the FAL3 maritime service that connects ports in the Far East with Northwestern Europe. Specifically, it is currently making its inaugural journey between Singapore and France.
On the occasion of this first passage through the canal, the Suez Canal Authority deployed special measures to ensure safe navigation. The operation involved several specialized pilots and support tugboats. And it is no small matter, as the ship "CMA CGM Notre Dame" is one of the largest in its category, measuring 400 meters in length, 61.3 meters in width, and has a capacity of 24,212 TEU.
