China Completes Installation of the World's Largest Offshore Wind Converter Station
The Chinese company ZPMC has successfully completed the offshore installation of the Hai Feng Zhi Xin converter station, which is claimed to be the largest of its kind for offshore wind farms in the world.
The structure, weighing approximately 25,000 tons, measures 82.5 meters long, 85.5 meters wide, and 44 meters high. Its placement offshore required a complex technical operation, continuously monitoring weather conditions, sea state, and tides to ensure precise and safe installation.
Once operational, Hai Feng Zhi Xin will be the world's most powerful high-voltage direct current offshore converter station, with a transmission capacity of 2,000 MW and a voltage close to 500 kV.
Its function will be to collect electricity generated by offshore wind farms, transform it, and send it more efficiently to the terrestrial power grid, reducing energy losses during long-distance transport.
According to forecasts, the installation will allow for the incorporation of around 6 billion kWh of clean electricity per year into the Chinese electrical system, contributing to the development of renewable energy and the reduction of carbon emissions.
