“Celebrity Silhouette”, first stop in Vigo
Its presence does not go unnoticed. It is a striking ship, highlighted by its size and the two curious chimneys that display the Celebrity Cruises logo, a company of the Royal Caribbean group. It is called “Celebrity Silhouette” and today it was in the port of Vigo for the first time. It arrived early from Lisbon on its way to Southampton, carrying an expedition of 2,762 passengers and 1,251 crew members.
Our collaborator Alfredo Campos Brandón reports, author of the accompanying photos, that most of the tourists on board booked excursions, as 25 buses were needed to visit Santiago de Compostela, Cambados, the wineries of Salnés, Bayona la Real, and panoramic views of the city of Vigo. Bergé Marítima handled the consignation.
It is one of five ships of the “Solstice” class, all built at the Jos L. Meyer shipyard in Papenburg (Germany). It has a capacity of 2,850 passengers and entered service on July 18, 2011. Weighing 122,210 gross tons, 88,427 net tons, and 9,500 deadweight tons, it measures 317.20 m in overall length, 36.80 m in beam, and 8.30 m in draft. Powered by four MAN engines, with a power of 67,200 kW and a speed of 22 knots. IMO Code 9451904.
