Vigo Hosts the Launch of the Offshore Solar Platform "Catarroja", the Second Unit of the Project in Memory of the Dana
Astilleros San Enrique has successfully launched the floating solar platform “Catarroja”, the second unit built by the shipyard for the project developed by BlueNewables and Naturgy.
The structure, weighing over 200 tons, will soon be transported to the port of Valencia, where it will be joined by the first platform of the project, named “Paiporta”. Both units, which pay tribute to two of the Valencian municipalities most affected by the Dana, will together form a 1 MW installation to test floating solar technology in real maritime conditions.
A Launch of Over 200 Tons
The launch maneuver took place in Vigo taking advantage of the high tide and involved around 15 professionals. To move the structure from the slipway to the water, the shipyard's two large cranes were used, which worked simultaneously along with the movement generated by the rising tide.
Once the platform was fully afloat, it was transported and moored at the southern dock of Astilleros San Enrique, where it will remain during the testing phase prior to its delivery and subsequent towing to Valencia.
