A Breakdown Leaves the Catamaran “Pinar del Río” Out of Service
Machines are machines, and they break down at the least expected moment. And that is what has happened to the catamaran “Pinar del Río” on the Algeciras-Ceuta line, where it replaces the ferry “Passió per Formentera,” which is currently undergoing its annual dry dock at the Gibraltar shipyard. After almost an hour of waiting about two miles out, it has been towed to the Ceuta port.
To replace it, Balearia has scheduled services with the catamarans “Avemar Dos” and “Jaume II,” while efforts are made to resolve the breakdown of the “Pinar del Río,” which has seen many years and many miles at sea. It is docked at the Isla Verde pier in Algeciras, awaiting resolution of the incident. Next Tuesday, the ferry “Passió per Formentera” will return to service, assigned to the regular service contract with the autonomous city.
