The bay of Donostia hosted a tribute on Thursday, July 23, to the participants of the Armada Cup 2026, the competition that connects Plymouth (United Kingdom) with the Gipuzkoan capital after covering 460 nautical miles.
The event featured the participation of the multipurpose vessel A 61 "Carnota" —commanded by corvette captain Eduardo M. Delgado Franco— from the Navy and fifteen other vessels, including names like "Estrella Polar", "Camborio Uno", "Krill", "Mirua", "Zeta Obelix", "Lalanda Handia", and "Demi Plié".
The overall winner was “Jaleo”, from the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Sporting Club, helmed by Gonzalo Chavarri. In second place was “Camborio Uno”, from the Real Club Náutico de San Sebastián, skippered by Edurne Berrueta, and third was “PH3”, from the Dutch club Kr&Zv De Maas, led by Austin Van`t Wout.
Also joining the tribute were the students of light sailing from the Real Club Náutico de San Sebastián and other vessels from the Gipuzkoan fleet.
This event marked the grand finale of the VII edition of the Armada Cup (Memorial Vicente Munilla), in which more than 80 sailors have participated and which faced very demanding weather conditions, with tight timings, since its departure from Plymouth on July 18.
The event programming for the Armada Cup 2026, which has returned this edition thirty years later, will conclude tomorrow, July 25, with the reception and award ceremony at the City Hall of Donostia, where the venue and dates for the next edition, the Armada Cup 2028, will also be announced.
The organization of the Armada Cup 2026 is the responsibility of the Real Club Náutico de San Sebastián and the Royal Western Yacht Club of England. The International Regatta City of San Sebastián - Memorial Vicente Munilla acts as a co-organizer, and the event is supported by the City Hall of Donostia, Donostia Kirola, the Sports Ports of Euskadi (EKP), and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.
