The Camino a Vela Sets Sail in a New Edition Lasting Over a Month Towards Santiago de Compostela
The sea has once again become a route with the celebration of the XI Camino a Vela Crossing, which will culminate in Santiago de Compostela. The legendary nautical journey began on June 5 in Hondarribia and will conclude on June 27 in the capital of Galicia.
The participating fleet of the eleventh edition, which set sail from Hondarribia days ago, continues its journey along the Cantabrian and Atlantic coast to Galicia, before completing the last kilometers to Santiago on foot. Participants will visit various ports in Euskadi, Cantabria, Asturias, and Galicia, connecting coastal communities and highlighting maritime culture, maritime heritage, and sustainability.
The itinerary includes stops at ports such as Bermeo, Santurtzi, Laredo, Santander, Gijón, Avilés, Ribadeo, Viveiro, Cedeira, Ferrol, A Coruña, Muxía, Muros, A Pobra do Caramiñal, and Vilagarcía de Arousa, before concluding the maritime journey and completing the path to Santiago de Compostela.
This new edition also aims to promote maritime professions, with the goal of bringing them closer to new generations. To this end, the digital platform BluePath has been incorporated, a tool created to raise awareness of professions related to the sea and the blue economy.
Through educational activities, meetings with professionals, and actions aimed at young people, families, and educators, the initiative will showcase the job opportunities offered by a sector that encompasses areas such as marine biology, oceanography, offshore renewable energies, shipbuilding, technology, aquaculture, maritime tourism, and port management.
