Boluda's Terminal in Las Palmas Launches with Its First Major International Transshipment
Boluda Maritime Terminals (BMT) embarks on a new phase in the search for new transshipment traffic at the port of Las Palmas and has just acquired four RTGs from OPCSA for its container terminal in the Gran Canaria capital. These units have been repositioned taking advantage of the presence of a barge that brought two cranes for Tenerife and the transfer of another to La Palma.
The launch scheduled for this coming Sunday aims high. It concerns the container ship “HMM Green” (IMO 9998468), flagged in Panama and with a capacity of 8,548 TEU, arriving from Karachi, Pakistan, with a first transshipment that will make history at the Gran Canaria port, being a giant of 100,902 deadweight tons and 274 m in length. The arrival of the mentioned ship is expected at 11 PM tomorrow, Saturday, July 25.
In light of this new phase and as a preliminary step, the General Director of Boluda Shipping, Javier Climent, and the Corporate Director of Boluda in the Canary Islands, Bernardino Santana, have initiated discussions with the stevedoring union to advance the reorganization of their terminal and increase activity, including international container transshipment operations.
The interest in positioning this activity in the area responds to the high level of efficiency and quality of both the terminal and the port stevedores.
Another gesture of the capacity that the port of Las Palmas and its entire port community have to attract traffic and activity, in this case led by a client of the level of the powerful Valencian shipping group Boluda.
