The BAM "Meteoro" Begins a Deployment of Over Three Months in West Africa and the Gulf of Guinea
The Maritime Action Ship (BAM) "Meteoro" departed on September 2 from the Las Palmas Arsenal to begin a deployment of over three months along the western coast of Africa and the Gulf of Guinea, aimed at strengthening maritime security in the area.
During its deployment, the ship will carry out maritime surveillance and security missions, cooperate with other countries, and support joint operations.
The mission is part of the Coordinated Maritime Presences (PMC) initiative of the European Union, which seeks to improve coordination among European navies and strengthen cooperation with coastal African countries to enhance maritime security and stability.
The BAM "Meteoro" will collaborate with eight countries in the Gulf of Guinea and will also participate in defense diplomacy activities in support of Spanish embassies. The ship's commander, corvette captain Alejandro Fraga Pardo de Guevara, has emphasized the importance of joint exercises and the exchange of experiences to improve cooperation among different navies.
To enhance its surveillance tasks, the BAM will embark Airfox aerial drones (UAVs), which will expand the capacity to observe the maritime environment and complement the coverage provided by the Navy's helicopters.
