Balearia Launches Daily Motril-Tanger Med Route
The ferry “Volcán de Tauce” has joined the regular line between the ports of Motril and Tanger Med, chartered by Balearia. A daily service with which the aforementioned shipping company strengthens its cargo transport services with North Africa from the south of the Peninsula.
Balearia will operate a daily cargo service from each port, departing at 12:00 from Motril and at 23:50 from Tanger Med. The offer is for 1,100 linear meters of rolling cargo on each trip.
Maximiliano Bermejo, Balearia's cargo director, highlights that this new connection allows “to expand the shipping company's cargo transport offer in the Strait and the Alboran Sea.” “Our main goal is to ensure high reliability and competitiveness with schedules and frequencies tailored to the needs of our customers,” he states.
This new line becomes the second connection of the shipping company with Tanger Med, where it also offers seven daily rotations from Algeciras. Balearia also connects the Moroccan city of Nador with Almería and Sète, in southern France.
Baleària has been operating in Morocco since 2003, providing passenger and cargo service, and over these nearly two decades has transported almost 4.5 million passengers, just over one million vehicles, and more than half a million trucks.
This is the second route of Balearia from the Granada port, where it operates three weekly connections with Melilla as the shipping company awarded the public interest line with the autonomous city since this year.
Economical and reliable, the veteran “Volcán de Tauce” is the first ship of Naviera Armas, newly established as such in 1995. It has a capacity for 350 passengers and a garage for 1,023 linear meters of rolling cargo. Two Mak engines allow it to maintain a speed of 16 knots.
