Baleària Canarias closes August with a 47% share on the Las Palmas-Morro Jable route, boosted by 'the three in line'
Baleària Canarias closes the month of August with interesting results on the Santa Cruz de Tenerife-Las Palmas-Morro Jable line —“the three in line”—, with a 43% share in passengers, exceeding 141,000, and the same percentage in vehicles, with almost 54,000 units. Only on the Las Palmas-Morro Jable segment, the share has been 47% in passengers, nearly 55,000, and 43% in vehicles, with just over 20,600 units.
The company chaired by Adolfo Utor maintains three daily rotations, with the first in the morning using the brand new catamaran “Mercedes Pinto” from the port of Las Palmas. This vessel is the highest-rated by customers on that line, where the catamarans “Volcán de Tagoro” and “Volcán de Taidía” also play a significant role.
Morro Jable has once again become the star destination this summer, where the high demand for vacations in Fuerteventura turns the southern port of the island into one of the most relevant for the public entity Puertos Canarios. For Baleària Canarias, it is greatly aided by the fact that passengers boarding in Santa Cruz de Tenerife do not have to transfer in Las Palmas, but continue directly on the same ship.
This attractive reality diminishes the prominence of the Las Palmas-Puerto del Rosario line, which serves the ferry “Volcán de Tamadaba”, with 2,500 passengers and just over 1,100 vehicles moved in August, although, on the other hand, it reliably ensures the transport of rolling cargo, and here another relevant figure arises, with just over 28,000 linear meters, which represents a 60% market share.
As for the “maritime bridge” between Canary capitals, the passenger share in August was 41%, with just over 86,000 passengers and a 43% share of vehicles, with almost 21,000 units.
In any case, these are significant results, considering that Baleària Canarias has just arrived and operates six daily trips —it has a route share of 45%—, two less than the competition via Agaete. Perhaps the last service of each day, departing at 9 PM, is somewhat late for the corresponding arrival at the destination.
