"Aurora" Summer in Tenerife
P & O is a British company deeply rooted in the ports of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where it has been present since the late 1920s, when the crisis of regular lines between Europe and the U.S. promoted leisure travel between England and the Islands of the Sun, namely Madeira and the Canary Islands. The presence of this century-old shipping company, which traces its origins back to 1837, has an unmistakable stamp and boasts a long tradition, making it one of the favorites among the British public.
On a scheduled stop, the cruise ship “Aurora” arrived this morning in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, coming from Santa Cruz de La Palma, and this afternoon it will continue its journey to Arrecife de Lanzarote. It comes with a full capacity of 1,978 passengers and 825 crew members. During its stay, in addition to the excursions booked on board to the Cañadas del Teide, the valley of La Orotava, and the mountains of Las Mercedes and Anaga, hundreds of passengers will stroll through the streets of the city center, creating a lively atmosphere in the port area, commerce, and hospitality.
Built at the Jos. L. Meyer shipyard in Papenburg (Germany) on behalf of P & O Cruises, it entered service in April 2000. It is an improved version of the ship “Oriana,” delivered in 1995 and recently sold to China. It is a vessel of 76,152 gross tons, with an overall length of 270 m, a beam of 32.20 m, and a maximum draft of 7.90 m. It is powered by four MAN B&W engines, with a power of 78,852 horsepower over two shafts and variable pitch propellers, allowing it to maintain a maximum speed of 24 knots. IMO Code 9169524.
