Attica Group offers the ferry “El Venizelos” for the Algeciras-Tanger Med route
The maritime service landscape on the Algeciras-Tanger Med route is brightening with the arrival of a new operator. This is the Greek group Attica Group, which has offered its services to the Moroccan side and is negotiating the terms of the agreement. Morocco wants traffic to be split 50/50, and at the moment, following the bankruptcy of Comarit-Comanav, only Inter Shipping is operating, whose visible head is a former employee of FRS who learned the trade and is making the most of it. The rest is managed by Spanish shipping companies with a varied fleet.
Vicente Costa notes on his blog ferrybalear.com that the ship chosen by Attica Group is the ferry “Diágoras,” currently in service with Blue Star Ferries and expected to operate during the 2016 OPE. Attica has two licenses and there is another ship currently in the negotiation table. This is “El Venizelos,” a ferry that has capacity for 3,000 passengers, 750 cars, and 1,650 linear meters of rolling cargo. It is currently in service with Anek Lines. If this happens, between Attica and Inter Shipping, they will capture a significant portion of the market share of the OPE.
