Astilleros Ría de Vigo Advances in the Construction of an eCSOV Vessel for Offshore Wind Farm Operations
Astilleros Ría de Vigo is building a new eCSOV vessel to support offshore wind farms, designed to participate in the necessary operations during the commissioning and maintenance of such facilities. The vessel has been commissioned by Bibby Marine and designed by the Spanish company Seaplace.
This new vessel will serve to support work related to offshore wind farms. To achieve this, it will feature an electric propulsion system, accompanied by auxiliary methanol engines. Additionally, its battery system will allow it to store over 24 MWh of energy and reduce fuel consumption during the vessel's operations.
Its development responds to the growing need for vessels capable of performing these operations with lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions.
The project has been visited by Ignacio Galán, CEO of Iberdrola, to closely observe the progress of the construction and the technical characteristics related to propulsion and energy storage.
For Astilleros Ría de Vigo, the project also represents a new contract linked to specialized shipbuilding and new technologies applied to the maritime sector.
