Astican could acquire a plot of 8,076 m2 in the port of Las Palmas, following the cessation of Hamilton and Cía.
Astican, the leading ship repair center in the Canary Islands, could aim for the concession of a plot located at the Reina Sofía dock of the port of Las Palmas, which has been managed by Hamilton and Company until now. The Port Authority will study the possible authorization this Thursday, July 23.
If it receives the green light, Astican will incorporate a plot of 8,076 square meters into its facilities, located in one of the most important areas of the port for ship repair and offshore activity.
This new space will allow the Canary Island shipyard to expand its capacity to service ships and large structures related to the energy industry, as well as improve logistical operations and storage of materials such as barite, bentonite, and cement used in offshore drilling.
The concession was initially granted in 2019 to the temporary union of companies formed by Hamilton and Tecnavin. However, the limitations arising from not having a permanent concession over the water surface hindered the development of the planned activity, leading to the possible transfer of the concession to Astican.
