Armas Cancels Stop in La Gomera Due to Electronic Malfunction
An electronic malfunction on the ship “Volcán de Taburiente” has led Naviera Armas to cancel this afternoon's stop at the port of San Sebastián de La Gomera for safety reasons, and the ship will make a direct trip to La Palma, where it can dock, if necessary, with the help of a tugboat, which the capital port of La Gomera does not have. There, other technicians who have traveled from Gran Canaria are waiting to try to resolve the malfunction, should it persist.
This situation, however, has caused a disturbance at the port of Los Cristianos when passengers who were scheduled to travel to La Gomera, unable to do so this afternoon and finding no alternative passage with Fred. Olsen due to it being the weekend, expressed their angry protest, prompting the intervention of state security forces to ensure boarding and departure to La Palma.
Additionally, there has been further discontent due to the traffic chaos that has occurred at the access points to the port of Los Cristianos, something that is common and especially chronic on weekends.
