The cylindrical flotel “Arendal Spirit”, anchored in Tenerife
Anchored off Santa Cruz de Tenerife, awaiting docking at the port of Granadilla for August 6, is the cylindrical flotel “Arendal Spirit” (IMO 9757046) flagged in the Bahamas, which has arrived from Palermo to undergo naval repairs by Tenerife Shipyards. It will remain until October, when it will set sail for the coast of Senegal, for a contract in those waters.
Designed by Heinen & Hopman Marine Equipment from Shanghai (China), it took shape at the Nantong shipyard (China) and entered service in 2015. Its cylindrical hull provides advantages over other accommodation vessels of this type, including better movement characteristics, greater stability, and more storage space, as highlighted by Julio A. Rodríguez Hermosilla.
With a gross tonnage of 40,938, its main hull has a diameter of 60 m and a deck of 75 m. The operational draft is 14 m and the maximum draft is 27 m. It features a dynamic positioning system DP3, with six rotating propellers and a nine-point anchoring positioning system.
It has 248 cabins for accommodating 500 people and offers various entertainment options for oil platform crews, who use these floating hotels during their rest periods or shifts in the oil fields where they operate.
