Algeciras fines Russian ship “K. Gasanov” 20,000 euros
The Maritime Captaincy of Algeciras has fined the Russian-flagged ro-ro vessel “Kompositor Gasanov” (IMO 8606628) 20,000 euros after a technical inspection found various irregularities on board. The aforementioned vessel has remained under arrest and subject to a sanctioning file for almost a month.
Among the deficiencies found is the violation of the maritime labor convention due to the crew not receiving their owed salaries, as well as significant anomalies related to safety at sea and pollution prevention. Due to the good weather, the vessel was allowed to remain for a few days with a minimum crew of nine people.
When the Ship Inspection of the Maritime Captaincy of Algeciras verified that the deficiencies had been corrected and the deposit of the 20,000 euros resulting from the fine had been made, the departure of the 4,674-ton deadweight vessel measuring 126 m in length was permitted.
Due to the considerable maritime traffic passing through the port of Algeciras, the irregularities and violations detected and sanctioned by the Maritime Captaincy are numerous throughout the year. It is the responsibility of the maritime authorities to maintain order in this and other types of situations, highlighting the effectiveness of certain classification societies in this regard, as they demonstrate little “class” in their classified vessels.
