5.1 million single-use plastics eliminated in 2022
During the year 2022, Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea eliminated 5,152,902 single-use plastic products aboard its fleet and in its port and land facilities. This brings the total to over ten million units since the #PlasticFree program was launched in 2019, in which the leading company in the sector has been a pioneer at the national level and in the international routes it operates with North Africa, the company reported in a statement.
In the progression since this program began, which Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea fulfills with maximum efficiency, it is noteworthy that in 2020, 1,465,700 units were eliminated and 2,998,924 units in 2021.
On this May 17, Recycling Day, Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea “reaffirms its strong commitment to the environment and sector sustainability. Challenges that it faces with enthusiasm and reality, being fully aware, moreover, of the importance of the decarbonization plans undertaken by the European Union and the Spanish Government,” it adds.
Recently, the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has endorsed the certification from Lloyd’s Register regarding the projects and efforts of Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea to help offset and absorb the carbon footprint (CO2).
Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea “focuses its efforts on everything related to the EcoEfficiency of its fleet for greater fuel savings through more efficient propulsion systems and reduction of CO2 emissions and the gradual incorporation of ships into the shore power connection system, also known as cold ironing, as the ports where the company operates have made this equipment available.”
On the social front, Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea's efforts translate into cleaning campaigns and litter collection on beaches and public spaces, as well as increased environmental awareness. The company is the first in the Spanish maritime sector to declare itself #PlasticFree and #Paperfree.”
